Club
Structure
The club is open to girls and boys from the
age of 5 and upwards. The club caters for and develops gymnasts with
a wide range of abilities, from absolute beginners to those competing
at International level.
There are about 70 gymnasts in the club, about
half in the competition squad and about half in the development group.
Training times are determined by the
level that the gymnast is working at, taking into account their potential
and their work ethic.
We regularly take part in inter-club, county,
regional and national competitions as well
as operating BGA award schemes.
There are currently 18 qualified coaches
and 7qualified judges at the club.
Development Squad
The development squad is the normal entry point
for gymnasts into the club. This squad caters for children from the
age of 5 to 11.
The gymnastics programme includes 'badge' work,
trampoline, basic body preparation, individual moves and some partner
work. Whilst a lot of the emphasis is on fun, the children also learn
the essential skills of co-ordination, self-discipline and hard work.
Those gymnasts who show the ability and attitude
that is looked for in a squad gymnast, are given the opportunity to
extend their training hours with a view to becoming part of the competiton
squad. In addition some of the gymnasts in this group are entered in
inter-club competitions. Where children have
previous competitive gymnastics experience, they usually move quickly
to the competition squad.
Competition Squad
The competition squad is for those gymnasts
who take part in Sports Acrobatics competitions
at Regional and National level.
There are a maximum of 40 places in the competition
squad, with ages usually ranging from 7 to 21 years.
We pride ourselves on the positive training
atmosphere which enables the children to progress in and enjoy the sport.
